RIM To Shed Yet More Jobs

In a sign that embattled manufacturer RIM is still struggling to keep its head above the waves the company is looking set to lay off yet more employees. The Waterloo Record is reporting that RIM could be shedding as much as 10% of its global workforce, which would amount to approximately 2,000 employees losing their jobs. Last year the same paper reported that RIM was laying off people and a year on it’s the same story. A spokesperson for RIM explained the layoffs:

RIM has committed to achieving significant efficiencies and operating cost reductions over the course of the fiscal year. Our financial target is to drive at least $1 billion in savings by the end of fiscal 2013. Head count reductions are part of this initiative.

RIM has already shed 2,000 jobs earlier this year too and alongside this latest wave of redundancies the total job loss could be as high as 6,000.
